Maine residents get further reach: a debt collector must hold a Maine license to collect here at all, 32 M.R.S. § 11031, and the Maine Unfair Trade Practices Act, 5 M.R.S. § 207, reaches unfair and deceptive conduct by original creditors, not only collectors.

Operating procedure

Record01

Every debt, as the collector claims it. Amounts, account numbers, and the date of last payment that starts every clock.

Log02

Every call and every incident, timestamped as it happens. A pattern of calls is evidence a single call is not.

Dispute03

Validation demands, cease and desist letters, and bureau disputes, drafted with the exact statutes cited.

Send04

Print, sign, certified mail. The tracking number goes on the record, and where the law sets a clock, it starts running.
